Microdosing & Seniors 🍄

Many of us are spending time with parents & grandparents this week and reflecting upon their physical, mental and emotional health. When it comes to sacred earth medicines and seniors, much of the mainstream narrative and media are focused upon end-of-life anxiety and terminal illnesses. But what about seniors who hold different intentions, hopes and visions for their medicine path? Today I'd love to share a bit of my experience working with individuals age 70+ in our microdosing programs & community.

"My dad is a completely different person. Sure, his memory is better, but he's also more kind to our mom. He's able to apologize now, which has never happened before! He's also more able to express emotion; he tells my sister and me he loves us more often. He's softer and less impatient. He'll never give the mushrooms credit, but my sister and I know!"

Most of the seniors I've worked with originally come to practice with the intention of improving their minds and cognitive abilities - they've noticed a decline in their memory, ability to articulate their thoughts, or process information as quickly as they had earlier in life. Those who contracted COVID-19 often report long tail brain fog and cognitive decline, while others wonder if their forgetfulness is a sign of early dementia, Alzheimer's or age-related cognitive decline.

Have we witnessed an improvement in brain health after microdosing?? Unequivocally, yes! But we've also seen the practice support so many other areas of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual healing.

As described in the testimonial above, participants and their families report a 'softening' - less rigidity, impatience and self-referential mindset. They are more able to express and articulate emotions and manage their impatience. Women over 70+ especially report a new & profound access to their voice, creativity and expression - born & raised in the 1950s, and after a lifetime of cultural conditioning to put the needs & dreams of other's first - the medicine helps them to connect with themselves more deeply and fully. And it can happen fast!

In my experience, no one has had a more profound result from microdosing than elder women who have spent a lifetime laying a rich foundation through contemplative, energetic and healing practices. In ancient Greece, only elder women were permitted to hold, keep and offer medicine in ceremony --- modern practice has shown me why this was... Elder women with this preparation often receive benefits more quickly, more profoundly, and often report practice feels more like "a remembering." They can navigate liminal states with more ease and elegance, and practice at lower doses than others yet receive profound gifts, results and experiences. So beautiful to witness.

If you or a loved one are in their senior years and curious about microdosing, I encourage you to explore! As an 83-year old member of our community said to me during their intake session: "I've spent my entire life knowing there was more to this life. What am I waiting for?!"
